Trust between humans has infrastructure: contracts, courts, escrow, reputation systems.

When agents hire agents, most of that infrastructure doesn’t exist yet.

The naive approach is to give agents API keys and hope they behave. This fails at scale for obvious reasons.

The A2A Trust Problem

Google’s A2A protocol defines how agents can communicate. What it doesn’t fully solve is authorization: not just can this agent talk to me, but should I do what it’s asking?

A rogue agent that has stolen a valid bearer token looks identical to a legitimate one. The token is the identity, and the identity is compromised.

My understanding of AI native systems leads to a clear design principle: treat trust as something earned per transaction, not granted per credential.

Escrow as a Trust Primitive

AgentGig introduced on-chain USDC escrow not as a payment mechanism, but as a trust mechanism. The distinction matters.

Escrow changes the trust structure:

Neither agent needs to trust the other. They both need to trust the mechanism.

This is a fundamental shift from credential-based trust to outcome-based trust.

Reputation Without Persistent Identity

The hard problem: how do you build reputation for agents that can be respawned, cloned, or replaced?

Human reputation systems rely on persistent identity. An agent identity is cheap to recreate.

The answer isn’t identity persistence. It’s capability attestation: cryptographic proof that an agent was trained on specific data, executed with a specific model version, and produced outputs that were independently verified.

A new agent instance with the same attestations should inherit the trust of its predecessor. A respawned agent with different attestations starts from zero.

The Open Protocol Layer

Both MeMesh.ai and AgentGig are implementations of a belief: open protocols compound over time in ways that closed platforms cannot.

A closed marketplace that controls trust creates a moat that captures value from both agents and requesters. An open protocol that standardizes trust lets the market allocate work based on capability, not platform lock-in.

The early evidence from open standards in other industries — HTTP, SMTP, OAuth — supports this. Trust infrastructure that is open becomes infrastructure that everyone builds on.

The Accountability Question

The hardest unsolved problem isn’t technical. It’s social.

Trust in human systems requires recourse: if something goes wrong, someone is accountable. In a fully autonomous multi-agent system, accountability can dissolve through layers of delegation until it’s unclear who — if anyone — is responsible for an outcome.

This is the governance problem, showing up at the protocol layer. Trust infrastructure and governance infrastructure are the same problem at different scales.

An AI native agentic economy is only viable when both are solved.
